A try dive is a 1-1 taster session in our pool with an instructor where you can try out SCUBA diving for free! We run these sessions at the start of term 1 and term 2 so people who have never dived before can experience breathing underwater for the first time.
What do I need to bring?
Yourself and suitable swimwear. Everything else is provided!
When and where?
Our Try dives are all held at the Sports and Wellness Hub pool on campus. There’s no form to fill out beforehand, but in order to get through the barriers you will have to book onto the session through either the welcome week timetable or the Warwick sport app/website. You can also do this at reception on the day. You do not need to be a club member to attend.
- Wednesday 01/10/25 18:30-20:30 (Book onto this session through the welcome week timetable, Sub Aqua taster)
- Wednesday 08/10/25 18:30-20:30 (Book onto this session through the Warwick sport app/website, Sub Aqua – Club session)
- Sunday 12/10/25 18:00-19:00 (Book onto this session through the Warwick sport app/website, Sub Aqua – Club session)
Each session is first come first served, so try to arrive as promptly as possible for the best chance at being able to dive.
What will I do in a session?
Everyone will be greeted by our secretary poolside and once you’ve completed your medical declaration you’ll be buddied up with the next available instructor. They’ll talk you through putting on your SCUBA gear, before guiding you into the water for 10-20 minutes of diving. Afterwards, you’re welcome to wait around poolside and learn more about the club/diving/Ocean Diver, or you can head home!
If you would like to request an instructor of the same gender just let us know on the day 🙂
Can I still dive if..?
To do a try dive you must be able to tread water comfortably, diving is not a physical sport but you must be confident in and around the water. Anyone with severe asthma or other heart/lung conditions should not try-dive. A copy of the medical declaration you will be asked to sign on the day can be seen here.
The physical/medical requirements to sign-up for our Ocean Diver course are a little more strict, more details are outlined on our Ocean Diver page here.
You enjoyed your try dive, what now?
Sign up for diver training! Our entry level qualification, Ocean Diver, is run in term 1 and term 2. Details and how to sign-up can be found here.
If you’d like to attend a second try dive you are welcome to, but those who haven’t dived before will take priority. Drop us a DM on Instagram beforehand and we’ll let you know how busy we expect to be.
