What is Octopush?
Octopush, also known as Underwater Hockey, is a 6-a-side partial-contact sport played at the bottom of the pool with two teams, a short stick and a weighted puck.
The goal is to score the puck into the opposing teams goal at the opposite end of the pool whilst holding your breath.
Our Sessions
We run 2 weekly sessions, open to all club members. New players are always welcome!
What happens at a typical session?
New players will be introduced to the equipment and encouraged to get use to swimming with the puck! Our pool time is typically split into half skills practice, half actual games.
Do I have to hold my breath for a long time?
Push is played at the bottom of the pool and involves duck-diving down to battle for control of the puck. The key to increasing your time underwater is consistency, playing regularly leads to fast improvement. The only requirements are to be comfortable swimming a few lengths and being able to dive underwater.
What equipment do I need?
If you’re new to the sport, everything is provided. Players wear a mask, fins, snorkel, helmet and glove. Once you are more involved exec can support you in buying your own kit, but this is entirely optional.
Sessions are held every Thursday (20:30-22:00) and Sunday (18:00-19:00) evening in the Sports and Wellness Hub. Details are listed in our WhatsApp Chat.
